Leo Carrillo State Beach

35000 Pacific Coast Highway Malibu CA 90265

Leo Carrillo Beach is part of Leo Carrillo State Park. The park features a 1.5 mile stretch of beach and a large campground nestled among sycamore groves at the base of the mountains. The Park is located at the far Western edge of Malibu near the Ventura County Line.

The Beach:
Although it's considered one beach there are actually 3 distinct geographic areas on this 1.5 mile stretch.  The South beach is great for surfing, tide-pooling, and sunbathing but not so great for swimming due to the rocky conditions. The point area features secluded sandy coves great for sunbathing and a feeling of privacy, and sea caves large enough to walk through and explore. Around the point to the North is a long flat stretch of wide sandy beach great for swimming, sunbathing, and picnics. Kite-surfers and windsurfers prefer this side for the strong afternoon winds. This side of the beach can get quite cold and windy in the late afternoon and early evenings. The picnic area here includes grills for barbecuing.

Surf:
The point break here is known to surfers as Secos. Medium tides are the best time for surfing here.

Dogs:
Dogs on a leash are allowed on the North side of the beach. Rules are strictly enforced.

Lifeguards:
Lifeguard towers are stationed at various points along the beach and are staffed full time in summer.
